The relationship between math and technologies can have a profound impact on the students’ understanding and performance in math classes. Thoughtful technology is a way to make students more involved in the learning process, provide personalized experiences and help diverse learners.
Mathematical software and hardware such as graphing calculators, spreadsheets and dynamic geometry environments enable students to interact with math in an appealing, interactive, and engaging manner. It lets them perform calculations quickly and efficiently, which would require a lot of time or effort with traditional pencil and paper methods. The software and hardware can help students gain a deeper understanding of concepts by helping them understand the processes involved and allowing them to play with their understanding of mathematical principles through trial and error (Jeng et al. 2010).
Students who make use of ICT to learn math often have positive attitudes towards the subject and have a greater understanding of math than those who don’t. Students who use ICT to comprehend complicated concepts in other subjects often gain greater understanding of those subjects as well as the ability to apply that knowledge to real-world issues.
